Located at the south of Israel on the Red Sea, the climate is dry but warm throughout the year. This makes it an ideal spot to get wet and wild. Well not too wild, as Eilat is a bit more reserved than some other beach destinations. But the resort area still offers numerous water sport activities including jet skis, water skiing, scuba driving and beaches of the finest sand you’re likely to find almost anywhere.
The nearby reefs make for a perfect area for snorkeling and scuba diving, and Eilat is one of the only places in the Middle East where you can even swim with the dolphins. Like many of the people in Israel some of the dolphins are actually immigrants from Russia (they came from the Caspian Sea), but many of the younger ones were born in Eilat and thus true citizens of Israel! This dolphin area is also unusual in that there haven’t been attempts to domesticate the animals, and nor is the area enclosed. The dolphins can go and come as they please and so far they seem to like it!
Once you’ve had your fill of the water, or just want a chance of place, you can take a tour of the nearby deserts and see the colorful mountains, which offer multiple layers of colored rock. The Timna Park is located 20km north of Eilat site of the worlds oldest coppr mines. There are numerous of close archaeological sites and just plenty of scenic beauty to take in. And you can hike it out in the desert, ride a camel or get a tour in a jeep. Excursions from Eilat to Petra are extremely popular and run daily. Trips to Cairo, the Pyramids and St Catherines Monastery run several times a week.
