“Brilliant!!”

Amalfi Hotel Chicago

Aug 22, 2008

WOW! I felt compelled to write this review becuase of the excellent stay I had. What can I say that others have not already said? This hotel is strategically located in downtown Chicago. It has an open bar between 5:30 - 7:00 in that will help kick-start any evening. Did I mention it serves appetizers too during this time? The free DVD rentals downstairs in the lobby are a great addition. The breakfast bar was always fully stocked with juices, muffins, tea, coffee (you name it). The hotel staff, although some are kind of older (40s, 50s) will try the best they can to point you in the right direction.

Next time I travel to Chicago, you can be sure I'll be checking to see if Amalfi has any suites.

We stayed for just one night ,but the hotel staff was extremely friendly and polite. The rooms were clean and large. The decor had just been redone. The best perks were the complimentary continental breakfast on each floor in the morning and the free cocktail hour with premium drinks and great appetizers at night. We got a great rate and would go back. Great location for walking around.

Amalfi Hotel Chicago

We stayed here last July, I live in Las Vegas and have stayed/worked in many of the top resorts, NONE compared to the Amalfi! This is truly a top notch hotel! The front desk is very inviting with a comfortable one on one sit down, the ammenities offered are second to none! Featuring a stocked pay as you go mini refrigerator, Voss water on the end tables, (for a charge) refreshed daily as needed, (we needed them), and double headed Speakman 2000 showerheads the showers were amazing! Cleanliness was first class. Among the top ammenities offered the top 2 was the Continental breakfast served on EVERY FLOOR, not in some dingy breakfast nook downstairs, every floor features a set up next to the elevators every morning! The second top ammenitie was the Coctail hour featured each night! I believe it was 2 hours, free Coctails and hors d'oeuvres! Were not talkin Jim beam and Budwieser here either! It was Jack Daniels Single Barrel and Peroni! Wines were Ferrari Carrano and Robert Mondavie! Every staff member was more than accomadating and friendly, so much you would almost expect they were brainwashed they were so nice! Staying here definatley makes a person feel like a VIP! I would not ever consider staying anywhere else when visiting Chicago! Can't wait to go back!

    • Liked — The ABOVE first class service, and the more than generous Coctail hour and cont. Breakfast.
    • Disliked — The view left much to be desired, however the service mad up for it a hundred times over.... and then some

“Amalfi Hotel Was Wonderful”

Amalfi Hotel Chicago

Aug 12, 2008

My wife and I just spent a week at the Amalfi Hotel in Chicago.
The location is terrific. We took the train from Midway Airport as the hotel is just a short two blocks from the stop. We bought a visitors’ pass and found the hotel to be within a bock of the CTA red line or the 29 bus. Since the weather was great we did a lot of walking! The Navy pier, House of Blues as well as many restaurants and stores are just minutes away.
We found the hotel to be very clean and quiet. The hotel had a lot of amenities that we enjoyed. First there were the robes and slippers in our room and a nightly candy turn-down. The room contained two queen beds and was a good size. The bathroom was large with a double shower head. At the staff’s suggestion, we asked the staff to empty the mini-bar so that we could stock water etc in the refrigerator. There is a 7-11 nearby.
We thoroughly enjoyed the excellent continental breakfast. It is set up across from the elevators on each floor and includes coffees and juices, yogurt, fruit and a selection of pastries with little jars of jam. There is china and silverware along with trays so that you can bring your choices back to your room as you plan your day.
We were on the go but did partake of the evening reception two nights. There were drinks, cheeses, roasted vegetables and Italian cold cuts and a very pleasant bartender.
The staff was extremely helpful and gave us excellent directions and advice.
We intend to vacation in Chicago again and will definitely stay at the Amalfi! We are recommending it to everyone.

“A good rate made this a great deal”

Amalfi Hotel Chicago

Aug 11, 2008

We needed a one night stop over in in December Chicago on our way to Vegas, and we were initially made aware of the Amalfi from a contributor on the TA forum when we sought some suggestions. At that tie of year bargains were to be had and we settled on a rate of about $180 inc taxes. Considering the location and specification, this sounded like a bargain

Location-wise it is about a 10 minute walk off the Magnificent Mile, and about the same from Clark and Lake station, so it's pretty convenient for the airport transit and the main drag. Boutique pretty much sums this up. Rooms are cosy and classy with quite high specification nik naks and toiletries. Although others have made variable comments about the lobby breakfasts, we thought these were great. You could pick up your tea, coffee, muffins, fruit, yogurt or whatever from just outside your bed room door in your robe, and then retreat back inside and polish it off on your bed while you're watching the morning news. What's wrong with that?

Check in and out was easy, although I would say that the check in staff had that "edge" of aloofness that might have ruffled one or two. Warm and welcoming they weren't but rude they were not. And yes, and not all rooms have a view. Overall I'd have to say that on a future trip to Chicago, this is the first place we'd try. You could pick one or two faults with it if you tried, but I reckon you need to be trying
