“Amazing Amalfi!”

Amalfi Hotel Chicago

4 of 5 stars
Windsor, Ontario
Aug 6, 2008

Stayed for 3 nights this past weekend. Loved the location, central to everything. Walked everywhere, Millenium Park, Magnificent Mile, River, close to El train.
Liked the evening cocktail reception, try their signature Amalfitini, it's delicious. The room was big, clean, and the bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've had in a long time.
Most of the staff was very friendly, some of the front desk staff was a little standoffish, some wouldn't even look up when you walked by, but everyone else, bellman, porters, housekeeping were so friendly it made up for it.
I saw the Batman movie "The Dark Knight" at the Imax theatre at the Navy Pier while I was there, and it was nice to see so much of Chicago in the movie since it was filmed in Chicago, and the Amalfi Hotel even makes a brief cameo in the movie.
I would definitely stay here again!

“Fantastic stay!”

Amalfi Hotel Chicago

Aug 2, 2008

Just spent three nights at the Amalfi Hotel, while in Chicago on business. Booked a king-corner room and loved it. Largest room I've ever had in a hotel in Chicago, incredibly comfortable, very clean. The breakfast and evening cocktails were a nice bonus too. And the location couldn't be beat. Walking distance to the the River, the Loop, Michigan Ave shopping and convenient to public transportation. I noticed a number of reviews commented on the noise; yes there is some street noise, and the building across the street is under construction (the noise from that was usually between 730-4, if you want to sleep late during the week ask for a room on the back side) but really, in downtown Chicago it's not going to be silent, if you want silence stay in the suburbs. If you want a great hotel (at a great price) right in the thick of everything, stay at the Amalfi.

“Very nice boutique hotel”

Amalfi Hotel Chicago

Aug 2, 2008

I stayed at the Amalfi hotel during the week, for one night, for business and the experience was really nice. It is in an ideal location about a block from the river and three from Michigan Avenue. The hotel is quiet, but not too quiet, clean and the staff were friendly.

I got a "kings corner" room and it was fantastic. The free wireless is not the best, but they also have a internet connection that works great.

The business center is private, but only has two computers and a printer. That was plenty for me as I worked primarily in the room.

They have a complimentary continental breakfast on all floors in the morning and it was quite nice. The coffee was even good for a coffee snob like myself.

The hotel is much smaller than I thought and only has six floors. The room is a reasonable rate for downtown Chicago.

Weekend trip to Chicago to drop off students at the School of the Arts Institute Chicago.

Positives:
- Excellent location - The Loop
- Walking distance to most everything
- Millenium Park a few blocks away
- The "El" nearby
- Many great restaurants
- Boutique style hotel - similar to Kimpton
- Very nice decor
- Snack bar with fee
- DVDs available for viewing
- Decent view
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Breakfast available in the elevator lobby of each floor
- Donuts, pastries, bagels, yogurt, juice, coffee - all of a higher quality

Negatives:
- Pricing - I was able to get a corporate rate thru my employer @ $239.00/nite
- Bottled water available for a fee
- Our room was close to the elevator lobby, so a little noisy - very bearable

Not many negatives, really. We had great weather and good temperatures. Loved Chicago.

“Slippage Has Begun”

Amalfi Hotel Chicago

4 of 5 stars

This is still a nice hotel and the staff is great, but there are a few warts on this hotel that weren't there a few years ago.

One of the best features used to be the morning breakfast. The quality of this breakfast has fallen so far that during our last stay we opted for breakfast out. Unappealing breads and danish and high sugar content juices were the extent of the spread. It appears that they have greatly cut back the breakfast to save money.

The rooms are still fine (and one of very few hotels in downtown Chicago where you can book a room with 2 queen size beds). Clean. Good sized. Nice bathrooms.

Parking is $48 a night. You may want to self park for less because oncce your parked you won't need your car until you leave. Everything is close or a short cab ride.

This used to be my favorite hotel in Chicago but they just don't pay attention to the details the way they used to. Nevertheless, a good place to stay.
