Our family of four stayed in a 3 bed, 2 bath condo for two weeks in early August. This was our fourth visit to Orlando in the last five years and we could compare our stay to our holidays in a villa with pool, in resort at the Portofino Bay Hotel and at the Crowne Plaza.
The blocks are impressive from the outside and the complex is very well located. Check in was quick, easy & friendly and we were allocated to Building 5. Our room on the fifth floor was virtually brand new and when we walked in we all smiled - until we looked over the balcony and saw the cement mixers, cranes and other construction materials surrounding the unfinished Pirates pool. Our friends had already arrived in the resort earlier in the week and when we contacted them to say we'd arrived and which room we were in, they let us know that they had been allocated to the exact same room on arrival and had complained on the second morning because of the construction work going at all hours (our friend has video footage of work being done at 4am!!).
We asked to be moved but were told that there were no other rooms available because it was the weekend and the hotel was at full capacity. Other guests who had checked in at the same time as us and who had been allocated to the same building had been a bit quicker and were moved straight away so it wasn't that we were being overly picky. We were given an alternative room overlooking the smaller pool the following evening.
Our second condo in building 2 was not as new but it was clean and tidy. Everything was in working order and there was everything we needed. There was a lively buzz of children playing at the pool each day which is exactly what we expected but what was less pleasant was the noise from the pool in the middle of the night (3am!) on a couple of occasions from adults. The pool was very small and the Pirate Pool was far from finished on our arrival - though closer to completion when we left!
We found some good places to eat close by (five minutes or less in the car) including Perkins for breakfast, Red Lobster (our favourite this time), Chilis, Lone Star and Pizzeria Uno for dinner. A tiny bit further afield we enjoyed Tony Roma's and The Outback.
What did we like best? The location, being able to do the washing & drying (sad but necessary with two teenagers!), approachable & professional staff.
What did we like least? the unfinished Pirates Pool.
Would we stay here again? Only if all of the glitches had been ironed out - the complex is still new and is still suffering from some teething troubles
