First off, I have to say that the Grand Floridian is stunning. It’s a just a beautiful hotel and has a great location. I stayed here with my mom and my boyfriend, while my mom was there on business. We had transferred from another resort because we came in for an extra day that was not part of the business trip. So when we arrived to our room that night, we expected our bags to have made the transfer and to have already been in our room – well they weren’t – at 10pm. So that was just something that should have been automatically done at a resort like this one. But our room had a great view of the lagoon and was a nice size – comfortable for the three of us. But it is really expensive. We did have a few disappointments here though. For such an expensive place, we thought everything would be perfect.
One day we didn’t have hot water at all and we were pretty much told to deal with it. Although, someone did come up later and was very apologetic about the situation, so I guess that helped a little.
We loved that the monorail and buses stopped here, but we didn’t like how long everything took. Since the Grand Floridian is close to Disney World – it’s not really close to anything else. So, the bus would go directly to a park on the way there, but on the way back to the resort it would stop at either one or two other resorts first – so a bus ride back could take almost an hour. That was really frustrating after a long day at a park or Downtown Disney. The same goes for the monorail. Going to the Magic Kingdom – it’s only one stop – but on the way back you need to go all the way around the lagoon. I recommend using the water taxi. It’s a nice trip and will go directly to the Grand Floridian from the Magic Kingdom.
The pool and beach areas are really nice. We enjoyed both. There’s a hot tub on the main pool, which is really nice in the morning. Also, at night you can see the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom and the Electric Light parade on the lagoon right from the resort – so that was really nice.
For a nice sit down lunch, the Grand Floridian Café is nice. They have good sized portions and a lot of options. We did make reservations for here though – just in case. We made reservations at a lot of restaurants just in case – because it saves a lot of additional waiting time. For breakfast – we just did the quick service Gasparilla Grill and Games every morning. But like everything – even cereal seems pricey.
This is definitely a more adult resort. While the resort is beautiful, has a waterfall pool and has character meals – there are other hotels that are more themed that kids might enjoy better. This is a good resort for couples or families with older children.
Overall, we enjoyed staying here. However, staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge right before this put things in perspective for us. We liked both resorts but for the cost – we would probably do the Lodge over the Floridian if we had the choice again.
