“The Floridian is stunning, but pricey”

First off, I have to say that the Grand Floridian is stunning. It’s a just a beautiful hotel and has a great location. I stayed here with my mom and my boyfriend, while my mom was there on business. We had transferred from another resort because we came in for an extra day that was not part of the business trip. So when we arrived to our room that night, we expected our bags to have made the transfer and to have already been in our room – well they weren’t – at 10pm. So that was just something that should have been automatically done at a resort like this one. But our room had a great view of the lagoon and was a nice size – comfortable for the three of us. But it is really expensive. We did have a few disappointments here though. For such an expensive place, we thought everything would be perfect.

One day we didn’t have hot water at all and we were pretty much told to deal with it. Although, someone did come up later and was very apologetic about the situation, so I guess that helped a little.

We loved that the monorail and buses stopped here, but we didn’t like how long everything took. Since the Grand Floridian is close to Disney World – it’s not really close to anything else. So, the bus would go directly to a park on the way there, but on the way back to the resort it would stop at either one or two other resorts first – so a bus ride back could take almost an hour. That was really frustrating after a long day at a park or Downtown Disney. The same goes for the monorail. Going to the Magic Kingdom – it’s only one stop – but on the way back you need to go all the way around the lagoon. I recommend using the water taxi. It’s a nice trip and will go directly to the Grand Floridian from the Magic Kingdom.

The pool and beach areas are really nice. We enjoyed both. There’s a hot tub on the main pool, which is really nice in the morning. Also, at night you can see the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom and the Electric Light parade on the lagoon right from the resort – so that was really nice.

For a nice sit down lunch, the Grand Floridian Café is nice. They have good sized portions and a lot of options. We did make reservations for here though – just in case. We made reservations at a lot of restaurants just in case – because it saves a lot of additional waiting time. For breakfast – we just did the quick service Gasparilla Grill and Games every morning. But like everything – even cereal seems pricey.

This is definitely a more adult resort. While the resort is beautiful, has a waterfall pool and has character meals – there are other hotels that are more themed that kids might enjoy better. This is a good resort for couples or families with older children.

Overall, we enjoyed staying here. However, staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge right before this put things in perspective for us. We liked both resorts but for the cost – we would probably do the Lodge over the Floridian if we had the choice again.

“Fantastic location”

No denying the location speaks for itself. With a baby in a stroller and (2) 6-year olds, the extra money was well spent on the quick and convenient access of the monorail.

Great afternoon fun and sun in the pool and at the hotel mini beach. Staff very helpful and accomodating to special needs.

“Magical Experience”

My family (two adults and a 12 year old son) stayed at the Grand Floridan Resort from July 3 through 8. We utilized Disney's Magical Express, which was a pleasure. We checked our bags at our home airport, and our bags were in our room that same evening. The Magical Express service was very well organized and we were at the hotel within an hour. Our room was not ready yet, so we ventured to the Magic Kingdom, literally 2 minutes away by Monorail. Upon our return at 8 p.m. that evening, we checked into the Boca Chica Building, 5th floor. We had a dormer room with a private balcony with a view of the pool. The room was large and comfortable. Our luggage was in our room, as promised. Our beds were turned down, the lighting was on low, and there were chocolates on the pillows. This turn down service happened each night of our stay. Our room was very well appointed, clean, everything up to date. The beds were VERY comfortable. We did not hear any noise from other rooms, as voiced in previous posts.

All hotel personnel couldn't have been nicer, from the second we stepped into the lobby until the time we checked our bags. There was always a friendly hello. Maid service was fabulous. Fireworks could be seen from the lagoon. The only restaurant we utilized was Gasparillas for some quick bites, and that was satisfactory to our needs.

We ordered room service the last evening. The service was great, the food was better than average.

I have stayed at several Disney properties. I have always wanted to stay at the Grand Floridian but couldn't justify the cost.

I decided to splurge and it was well worth it. The hotel is spectacular in every way.

“Loved the Grand Floridian!”

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa

Jul 3, 2008

Just returned from a 5 day stay at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Loved every minute of our stay. From the moment we boarded the Magical Express bus at Orlando airport, our trip was a delight. Every staff member from the front desk to waitresses to housekeeping were kind, polite, and went the extra step to make our stay special. The room was large by Disney standards and always immaculate. The room was bright and the decor cheerful. Many hidden Mickey's to be found in the curtains, bedspread, rugs, armchair, and wallpaper. Every night our beds were turned down with chocolate left on the pillows. The beds are by far the most comfortable of any hotel I have ever stayed at. I have read other reviews complaining of the sinks being outside the bathroom but we had more than enough space for two adults and a teenager. We ate all of the restaurants offered by the hotel and they were all wonderful. Even the lobby is a treat. At night there is a piano player who was very talented. Also appearing was a band and couples were dancing throughout the lobby. The availability of the monorail and the frequent boat service to the Magic Kingdom cant be beat. I have stayed at the both the Wilderness Lodge (so-so) and the Polynesian (loved) and I think the Grand Floridian is my new favorite. Really a special time, great service, extra special touches, expensive but worth the treat.

“Great Stay!”

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa

Jun 18, 2008

We stayed at the Grand Floridian for one week in June, 2008 with a 6 year old child. We just booked a "standard room" thru AAA and wound up with a room in a great location in the Conch Key building. We had a view of the Magic Kingdom castle (and nightly fireworks) from our balcony and we were right above the boat dock. This was convenient for SeaRaycer rentals and our child's lifevest, loaned to us for the duration of our stay.
This hotel is very convenient if you have younger children and spend most of your time in the Magic Kingdom. It's the first stop on the monorail and literally 2 minutes away.
The hotel is very clean and staff was very friendly and helpful. I've read negative reviews of rooms on this site, but ours was very clean and well kept. I even smelled fresh paint in our building and room the day we arrived. There are several nice restaruants, but only one counter service facility. It is nice, but could offer more variety. The grounds are beautiful and perfectly maintained by a grounds crew that seems to work almost around the clock.
I would definetly stay here again. It does cost more to stay here than at other Disney resorts, but in my opinion is worth it.
