“One of the best places we have ever stayed!!!!”

Khem Villas

We spent two nights in June 2008 at Khem Villas. I can honestly say that Khem Villas is one of the best places we have ever stayed. The resort is owned and expertly run by Usha and her husband Goverdhan Rathore. The Rathore family is very famous in the region and were essentially the founders of Ranthambore National Park (Goverdhan's father was the park's first director). They have transformed their family property into a very private five star resort. From the moment you arrive at Khem Villas you are treated like family and the entire 10 acre property is yours to explore. The unobstructed views from the cottages out to Ranthambore Park are spectacular. The staff is very friendly and and their attention to detail is remarkable. We were travelling with a small child (3.5 yrs old) and we have never been to a resort where we felt so welcomed and comfortable.
The resort is located a short 5 minute drive from the main gate of Ranthambore National Park. Inside the park there is lots to explore including the famous Ranthambore fort (2nd largest in Rajasthan) and of course the wildlife safari. While in the park we were fortunate enough to see a huge variety of birds (owls, vultures, peacocks, storks, etc..), herds of deer (spotted and samba), antelope, crocodiles, mongoose, monkeys, and wild boar. The highlight of the safari was when a 450 lb female tiger walked out of the bush not more than 20 ft in front of our open top jeep. This is truly a site I will never forget!!!!
I would like to thank Usha and the Khem Villa staff for making our visit to Rajasthan so memorable. We highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for an adventure they will never forget.

we stayed at khem villa in early april 2008 for two nights. a thoroughly revitalising experience in the midst of jungle ! the hospitality was great and staff very helpful. we went on two safaris and did see the big cat close up and what an experience it was !
the drinks by the lake in the evening after a day out on the safari was relaxing. the vegetarian cuisine was excellent and choice was plentiful. the villas were comfortable and luxurious for a jungle cottage. the kids enjoyed the splash in the pool and thought this was the best jungle safari they have been to.
usha jee and goverdhan jee are perfect hosts and very much take time and interest in making guests feel at home.
we would thorughly recommend a stay here and would visit again.

“The most peaceful and calming place I've ever stayed in”

Wonderful, there is nothing to fault about this place. Our Cottage was beautifully decorated and furnished and the outdoor bath was a blessing after a long and dirty safari. The service here is increible, everything you could possibly need has been thought about; early morning drinks, cold towels when you get back from a hot safari, sandwiches for the early morning safari. The hospitality is exceptional and Usha is a wonderful hostess setting a standard that all her team follow.

The other thing that is so great about this place is the amazing work that the family are doing for the local community, they are involved in a hospital, school and bio gas projects which guests can visit. We went to a bio gas project and it was amazing to see the impact this is having on villagers lives. Its also a wonderful place for ethical shopping, we went to Anokhi and a women's co-operative, no haggling, no stress - bliss!

We loved Khem Villas. All in all a perfect experience!

The grounds are lovely and beautifully kept at this intimate and very special place. The proprietors make it a point to make you welcome and perfectly comfortable from the moment you arrive until you leave and, when you leave, it is always with sadness that you cannot stay a bit longer. We stayed in a well appointed and very private cottage, but the tents looked pretty great too.

The website photos do not do this place justice. It blends so beautifully into its setting, you feel like you are part of the park.

“Wow!!”

We are a couple that travelled independently for three weeks, primarily in Rajasthan. As I developed the travel plan, I thought it would be a good idea to escape the city environment after Delhi, Agra and Jaipur and was I right. We took the train from Jaipur (late) but were met by the Khem Villas driver.

My wife was quite ill as we travelled that day and the cool towels and cold drinks were welcomed.

Like many of the places we stayed in, it is the owner that makes the difference. That is certainly the case with Usha. She responded to my many (many many) emails with patience and good advice. When I was unable to make reservations for a safari through the government website, she did the bookings for us. She also arranged for a car to take us to Bundi. The driver and car were both fine. She runs a tight ship with charm and a smile.

We stayed in a room in the main house and it was as shown on the website. The room was large and the bathroom was spacious and clean. I also looked at the cottages, which were beautiful. Given the difference in price, I thought the rooms were excellent value.

Although I am not a vegetarian, I thought the food was great and plentiful. The staff were attentive and provided excellent service. They gladly provided some simple food for my wife, since she was not feeling well. Again, the value for money for food was also excellent.

I really enjoyed sitting out for pre-dinner drinks and munchies. I enjoyed the diccussions with the other guests and the owners on variety of issues related to global politics and business.

Overall, it was great experience and I can easily see why the won "Best Hidden Gem " award. You will be impressed.
