“Do this instead of a snorkelling trip - Perfect place”

Castle Zaman

It took us about 40 minutes to get there from Taba - it was an awesome place, breathtaking views, wonderful service, great amenities and food to die for.

I'd read about it on here (a huge thanks to people who pointed this out) so i went on the website and got the number. When we got there it was also advertised at the hotel so I went to reception to ask if they could arrange it for us. They said it was 75 Euros each, also same price (75 euros) for children and 65 dollars for the taxi.

I rang Castle Zaman myself and it was actually 35 Euros each, kids were free and 25 Euros for the taxi - a huge difference! They only allow kids over 6 in the pool and it does state that it’s not child friendly. Our daughter is 8 and she absolutely loved it, we had to drag her away and she’s still talking about it now.

They have a private beach - which is a bit of a trek, and I wasn't sure whether or not I could be bothered walking down (and more to the point back up) the hill but i'm so glad i did. The snorkelling was better than any of the trips they take you on - the coral is quite a way out (just go straight forward) but it's pretty shallow and then it's just all virgin coral - spectacular! Take your own snorkelling gear though.

It takes 3 hours to cook your food (to die for!) - i knew this in advance so when we booked, we arranged to be picked up at 2 and i asked for the food for 5. I was a bit worried about killing time, but it went far too quickly and if i went again, i'd go earlier and have food later, it was soooo good.

There's also a beautiful infinity pool, they have some pet labradors (proper pets not mangey ones) which just want to play (she asks you if you're ok with dogs before so don't worry if you don't like them) but we had great fun with them, they were diving into the pool with us and just a pleasure to have around. They didn't come out when we were eating so there were no sad doleful eyes watching your every mouthful.

There was a Canadian girl that runs it and an English girl – both provided excellent service. Always there for whatever you needed and really friendly but never in your face. We really wanted to go back, but alas just ran out of time.

It was just a perfect day and i can't recommend it highly enough.

We don't have to say a lot, the other reviewers have already said it.
I have worked as a Senior Officer on reputable Cruises ships for the last 10 years, I have been around and I know good food.

So when I say Castle Zaman is a wonderful and hospitable place it really is. And if you do go for a meal do not have anything to eat before hand - the food is very good and there is lots of it.

Many thanks to Laura and her colleage, our day at the Castle really made my wifes birthday something special.

Before going to stay at Taba Heights did some research on this site. Followed the links to the Castle which looked different and interesting. We decided to book for a meal there and called mid morning and spoke with Laura. She made all the arrangements, including transport.

As we approached from the road to the North we saw what looked like a part ruined castle and drove up the sharp incline. On stepping out of the taxi we walked in and was greated by Laura. She gave us a bit of a run down about the place. Seems it was only completed in 2004, is built to the true style of the period and used only the real types of materials that would have been used.

Perfect location and so well planned and though out. A fantastic achievement to the guy who came up with the concept. When the food came is was a massive amount, far too much. The quality was exceptional and because of the slow cook process used the meat just falls from the bone. While eating you wouldn't be surprised to see a Crusader Knight stepping throught the door after a hard days crusading looknig for a heart meal and flagon of ale.

Would recommend this place for couples but is OK for families but, as they warn, it isn't really child friendly. While they would love to clamber about and explore there is the risk that they might try to do too much !

Fantastic view, delicious food, morish cocktails, friendly staff, fascinating architecture and details, groovy music... and I can just keep going! Egypt/Sinai is one of my favourite destinations... and I always end up staying in the area around Castle Zaman (I prefer this area much better than what is now commercial Sharm and Dahab -- but you just need to know where to go/stay ;-)... and now no trip is complete without going at least once to the Castle (but do not confuse it with the historic castle that is on an island 5 miles or so from the Israeli border!). The place hasn't been around for long (probably officially opened in 2003), but built with middle ages designs and techniques... and manages to combine style with comfort, while primarily using natrual elements. It is set on top of a hill (hence the panaramic view), has a lovely bar and restaurant, a swimming pool that blends in with the hill and of course showers if you need to freshen up from the pool or sea (they have a "private" beach across the road from the hill... nice corals, and nice to swim and laze about, but nothing is built on the beach so far and it's quite close to the road... but there's potential there if they decide to do somethign with it!). In the "dungeon" of the castle there's a shop that actually sells good stuff for souvenirs and gifts (it's not the usual touristy stuff that you usually find). The place opens in the morning till late (12pm or so... depending on customers). They have a slow food menu and some of the dishes can take 3 hours to prepare -- so either book by phone, or preferably go early enough and enjoy the view, pool and bar. And if you're not vegeterian, don't miss the lamb (although the seafood orgy is delicious too). Well, there are few magazine review clippings about the place on their website... so have a look if you want to find out more. Very highly recommended!!

“What a View!”

I had just arrived the previous day from NZ when I though I would start to explore, as I was walking from my camp (Antica) I came across a sign for Castle Zaman looking up I see what looks to be a ruin of some sort. Indulging my curiosity I continue my walk to the gate where a friendly local greets me and shows me the path up to the Castle. I hadn’t heard of any such ruins in the area so I didn’t know what to expect. When I reached the top and follow the sign which reads to Za Bar (lol) I reached a fountain, which lead me to the main room of the castle that was full of hand carved wooden tables and wonderful stone arches. Lets just say I needed a minute to absorb it all. I continue walking though a large set of wooden doors where I came to halt I’m overlooking a pool which in turn overlooks the ocean. I can see Saudi Arabia in the distance, truly mindblowing. I order a beer from a lovely Czech woman and spend the next few hours conversing about all subjects imaginable and then see the moon rise and illuminate the vast sea. I decide to call it a night and I make my way back to the camp but I will not forget my wonderful experience at the castle any time soon. I did not try the food but I watched others enjoy it and I kicked myself for eating before I came but if I am ever back again I will surely stop in and have a feast for a king which I most certainly am not but I can sure eat like one lol
Zaman gets an A in my book
Cheers
