Okay, so Mexicana isn't the most luxurious hotel available to stay in in Sharm el Sheikh, but in my opinion it is no where near as bad as some of these reviews make out. True I did not stay on an all inclusive basis, preferring to check out the local restaurants and egyptian cuisine, but breakfast was basic, edible and in a clean setting, and by no means 'disgusting,' -although I wouldnt say it was four star. Our tour operator made us fully aware that they did not recommend dining in any of the hotel's three restaurants, which i didnt mind as it's not my thing anyway, and most of the food on offer were carbohydrate based burgers, chips and pizzas.
Our room was clean, tidy and basic. The bed sheets were immaculately clean and made up every day. We had a television with a few english speaking channels, a telephone, a fridge which was filled every day,- the sorts of things you might expect. It wasnt top quality, but unless i'm completely unaware of the low standards of hygiene i posess, i cant see how anyone could call this hotel filthy or disgusting, -it simply wasnt, in my experience anyway. The pool was clean, towels clean, everything clean. The grounds were well maintained, and beatiful flowers laced the outside of the building.
The staff were friendly, helpful and polite. The guys on reception didnt have the best english, but there werent any major problems caused by this. The hotel itself is a bit out of the way of the main tourist area, but then again that's how i like it. Taxis to naama bay are about 3 english pounds.
If you want to stay in your hotel, have the best of the best and live in the lap of luxury, this hotel is not for you. If you want to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in your hotel, be provided with daily entertainment in your hotel, basically live your holiday with your hotel as the main focus, then i definitely dont reccomend mexicana to you. But if you;re happy to stay in a clean resort, with everything basic provided, and will be spending a lot of your time venturing out to places and coming back to chill by the pool and top up your tan, then its absolutely fine.
