Just returned from a weeks trip to Sharm el Sheikh. Stayed at the Joile Ville resort after much consultation on trip advisor and really glad we chose it. The resirt is lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was large and clean with a huge bed and flat screen tv and 2 balconies (though the balcony furniture wasn't the comfiest!!). We took advice from other trip advisor reviews and booked a room in the preferred front area, staying block 8 which is definitely better than the plams or sport area in terms of proximity to restaurants, beach, pool etc.
We stayed B&B. Breakfast was great - massive buffet of fresh fruits, fruit salads, loads of different yoghurt combinations (with fruit, muesli, mint, honey etc), pastries, breads, coked items, cereals etc etc. We didn't need lunch after filling up at breakfast!! We ate at 2 of the hotel restaurants for dinner - the orangerie for the egyptian buffet evening - £22 per head for food plus drinks on top and Ziglionis - Italian. The buffet was lovely with loads to choose from including french fries for those not so keen on the egyptian choices! In fact there was food in so many places each time we went back up to the buffet we discovered new stuff we'd missed the time before!! Ziglionis food was ok but the speed they brought it to the table following our order meant it couldn't have been freshly prepared. In the hotel local wines are between £17 and £26 per bottle and imported about £45, so not cheap! It is defintiely a better plan to eat outside of the hotel if ur on b&b for a cheaper stay. We ate at Maharaja - a recommendation from a fellow holiday maker whilst we were there as we hadn't seen mention of this place on trip advisor before going. it was empty when we got there but the staff couldn't have been friendlier. They were very softly spoken and gave you space but were also there to help you out and to pour your drinks when your glass emptied. The food was cheap and very nice. Good selection of dishes. We also ate at the recommended pomodors which was also excellent though we did have to wait for an outside table and getting extra drinks and the bill proved to be a bit time consuming as the waiters are so busy. Cost £30 for 2 dishes each, beer, breads, rice and soft drinks. Cost £25 including tip for 2 courses, glass of wine and soft drinks. Also ate at TGI Fridays which was the cheapest meal out - £17 for 2 courses and soft drinks - but the worst meal we had! Had drinks at beach bar in happy hour from 7.30 till 8.30 which meant 50% off so more reasonable price wise and you got popcorn! tried the gazhala beach bar after reading a trip advisor review but didn't like that so much though happy hour is 3 hours long but you have to get 2 of the same drink to benefit and staff aren't as friendly.
I was worried being vegetarian about eating whilst i was there but had different food every night so no problems.
We flew via Cairo with egypt air which we wouldn't do again. Our flight was only delayed into cairo by 15 mins but it took us an hour and a half to clear immigration so we missed our connection (no help whatsoever from the airport staff to get through to make our connection) so spent the night in cairo airport so not great start! Also food on egyptair flight is pretty grim especially for veggies!
We went diving with red sea diving college whilst there. Just a word of warning - be careful on the older oats as they have metal backs which are easy to slip on as jumping in. Unfortunately this happened to my partner and he ended up in the hospital for stitches after catching his leg on the metal as he fell. The college staff were great and accommpanied us to the hospital and to the oharmacy and hotel afterwards - all in their college minibus so that made things easy. And Claire, the nurse at the hospital, was great. many thanks to her!
Did camel riding which was good, booked thru the hotel, and also had a few treatments at the jolie spa which were nice though would recommend the swedish over aromatherapy massage and also don't bother paying for the romantic package to get treatments in the vip room together - you are in separate rooms anyway!
So despite a few calamities and coming down with a cold we had a great time and will be going back to the jolie ville again to try and dive without any injuiries!
