“Horrid. The GM and the Assistant Managers are the worst in the Industry”

Super 8 Atlantic City

Aug 27, 2008

I was due in AC for business and my colleague went there earlier than I did. She was incensed with the appearance of the place. When she called she was informed that the location was in a safe neighborhood. That was a blatant lie. She checked into a room and it was dirty. She complained and was taken to another room which was equally dirty. In her opinion, the only thing missing in both rooms was the dead body chalk line on the floor.

With this information, I proceeded to cancel my reservation. So I thought. I was told that it was cancelled. I later received a letter in the mail saying that I was a no show. I called the establishment and after the assistant manager told me that I was lying to him, he “connected” me to the General Manager. He actually hung up on me. I had not raised my voice or called him names as he did to me. At any rate, I called back and this time he actually did connect me to the GM. I left a message on the cell phone because that is what I was connected to. 2 days passed and I heard nothing so I called back. This time I spoke with the GM and he was just short of calling me a liar. There is no reason to lie about the situation but for whatever reason he felt the need to state that it was impossible that any of his staff would say the things that I was reporting to him. I asked him for his boss’ number and he refused to give it to me. I asked him for the customer service number and he refused to give that to me. I ended up calling the reservation 800 number to get connected to the customer care department. I filed a complaint with them and the woman I spoke with informed me that it is policy that they are supposed to give the number if a guest/customer asks for it. Obviously, they are not following their own policies.

My colleague has also filed a complaint. We both will never stay at the Super 8 in Atlantic City. Working for the government, we frequently travel to Atlantic City for work. We will ensure that no one goes to the Super 8 again. The area was booked solid for the AC Air Show and several other events and vacationers. Next time, we will be happy to drive the extra 30 minutes to ensure that we do not ever set foot in or around this poor excuse for a resting place. I hope that you heed this review.

DO NOT STAY HERE.

“Ugh. Gross.”

We were looking for a cheaper alternative to the casinos and *thought* that being near the boardwalk would be convenient.

WHAT A LET DOWN.

First, it was NOT CHEAP ($269 + tax = >$300 for one night).

The room was dingy, sheets were washed, but had "sex stains" on them.

Two wimpy little towels provided for two people, so no clean towels in the morning if you shower at night.

DID NOT FEEL SAFE walking to the hotel at night. Saw broken glass from car break-ins just in front of the hotel. Saw police activity 50 yds from the hotel that night (don't know what, but two cars with their lights on).

DID NOT FEEL SAFE leaving my car in their lot. No video, no fence. Seems like it should have closed circuit video and barbed wire in that area! Fortunately, no break-in for me!!! Yay!

Amenities:

Clean pool with nice view of the grubby street.

Dive bar next door (open 24 hours!!)

Free coffee in the morning (though it tastes bad because the inside of the machine hasn't been cleaned often enough).

You can learn everything you want about trailer parks by chatting with the folks in the next room.

NEVER AGAIN.

I was taking my mother and grandmother to Atlantic City and wanted to stay at one of the nice luxury hotels..like the Resorts, Taj Mahal, etc..but they were just too expensive...so I found out there was a Super 8 motel right near the boardwalk...I stayed at a Super 8 motel in Monticello, NY which was very very nice..so I thought they would be the same here...boy was I wrong!!...When we first arrived to our "Double Bed Suite"...there was a huge moth flying around the room!!!...The tv wasn't working in the bedroom..and the tvs werent compatible with hooking up a playstation for my brother (which I already called to see if they did and they told me there tvs were)...I called the front desk and I couldn't be helped until the morning...our non smoking room smelled like smoke and the staff wasn't being very helpful at all...we wasted a whole night being truly unhappy in this room...we finally was moved the next afternoon into another room with a working tv and the manager made it seem like it was my fault...I wouldn't stay here again...and the area is horrible and very dingy.

“Best non-casino value on the boardwalk”

Super 8 Atlantic City

We were skeptical to book here based on reviews, but we were only going to be there two nights so we decided to give it a try. I called the Super 8 toll free # and made the reservation with no problem. We arrived 4 hours before check in time, but was told we could go ahead and check in. The check in price was even $1.00 less than it was when I made the reservation the day before. We only paid $124 for two nights. We have paid allot more than this at other chains on/near the boardwalk and been must less satisfied. The room was a nice surprise. The building is obviously old, but they have done allot of improvements and the room was quite nice! Clean, pretty and comfortable!! It had a 4-cup coffee maker, refridgerator, hair dryer, new heating/cooling unit and nice towels. The only improvement I thought the room needed was new carpet and thicker pillows. The lobby was a work in progress, but it was not bad at all. We did not attend the continential breakfast so I cannot comment on that. My only complaint would be that you had to pay for coffee in the lobby so I held out till morning when I made it in the room. Next time I'll just pack some extra coffee and creme. :) Our car was parked near the office and it was fine. We felt very comfortable walking the 1/2 block to the boardwalk. We would definitely stay here again.

The rooms were quite clean, and I believe the tub and toilet were almost brand new. To access any of the upper rooms, you have to go through the lobby (which is still being worked on), adding a layer of security. The staff were friendly. The neighborhood is a little sparse, but so is much of AC between Bally's and Resorts, so that was not an issue. It's a quick one block walk to the Boardwalk, which we never had a problem with, even at 3am. Having stayed at a number of its competitors (Best Western, Econolodge) over the last few years, the Super 8 was a much nicer place to stay.
