I have just completed my fourth stay at the New Majestic over a six week period. Each time I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I have tried three different rooms types each with its own unique decoration and quite different layouts.
Although some rooms are small (relative to some of the bigger properties in SIngapore), they are well laid out and maximise use of available space.
The toiletries and bedding were top notch (particularly the quilt which was appropriately light for the tropical environment that Singapore is), and the airconditioning relatively quiet. The breakfast, whilst not offering the huge spread that many hotels offer, was simple, fresh and met my needs for a quick, light breakfast before heading to the office, similar to that I would have at home.
The hotel staff have been friendly and courteous and I was warmly greeted everytime I entered/left the hotel - perhaps because they began to recognise me! I do like the location close to Chinatown, less than 100m from Outram Park MRT and only a short walk from areas such as Club St and Tanjong Pagar, and a lot more peaceful than staying somewhere like Orchard Rd.
As far as facilities go, they are commensurate with the size of the hotel. I have enjoyed a meal at the restaurant and drinks/snacks at the lively Majestic bar.
Another positive is inclusions - such as breakfast, internet, (soft) minibar & local calls reduce the add-ons, and even laundry reasonably priced.
Downside? (some) smallish rooms, a little noise if staying on the bar side of the hotel, and perhaps not having the infrastructure that a large hotel provides.
In summary, if you are after a decadent 5 star experience, lavish breakfast, palatial rooms and massive swimming pool then I'd recommend staying elsewhere. If you're after a modern, attractively designed boutique hotel with non-obtrusive but personal service and close to but not right in the middle of Singapore hustle and bustle - I'd thoroughly recommend the hotel.
