“Modern Boutique Hotel in heart of CBD”

The Scarlet Hotel

Sep 2, 2008

We stayed at The Scarlet for 7 days. It is ideally located across the road from Chinatown, is in the heart of the Financial CBD and is within 5 min walking distance of two MRT stations (train).

The Scarlet is an impressive boutique hotel with very professional and friendly staff. There is no need to dine in for any meals because the famous Maxwell Hawker Centre is literally across the carpark from the hotel where one can sample all the local delights with the locals!

The room is very small at The Scarlet so do not overpack. This establishment is ideal for the single traveller or a couple, definitely NOT for the family.

Besides the fantastic location, amazing architecture and friendly staff, The Scarlett also offers FREE unlimited broadband internet in each room - so bring your laptop!

Accommodation rates in Singapore are exhorbitant and The Scarlet is one of the most affordable option when we booked.

“Boutique Hotel Always Have Small Rooms”

The Scarlet Hotel

There is quite alot of positive online reviews about The Scarlet, however I was quite disappointed when I visited it during my birthday last year.

We booked the deluxe room but, there were no open windows and the room was small & in an odd shape. There was no bathtub in the small bathroom as well. However, to their credit, at least the room was clean.

Basically, there was just nothing for me to rave about, especially when it costs more then SGD$200.

“Great for a Romantic Break”

The Scarlet Hotel

May 31, 2008

We stayed for 4 nights on our way back from Australia. For the level of service and design detail this place gets 5 stars.

Our room did have a window so can see that people may have been unhappy if they arrived to find they did not have one.

Although the room was on the small side we did expect this from the description on the website. The quality of the room and design made up for its small size.

Staff were very helpful and friendly, we only had breakfast 1 day at the hotel which was great although a little expensive. Being in the heart of China Town there are some great cheap food stalls near by.

The main downsides to the Scarlet were:
1) the roof restaurant food was not that great they really need to work on the menu and train the waiting staff a little better. We would not recommend eating there for the price, there are plenty of places that have better food near by
2) we did not expect that a service charge would be added onto our room bill. We were told this was on the website when we booked but was a shock to have to pay more than we expected

Apart form these 2 things though we were very happy with the hotel and would stay again.

“Below all standards”

The Scarlet Hotel

Noisy cramped windowless room!

The Scarlet has some rooms without a decent window, the window is a low non transparant one, cannot be opened and is against the ceiling of the room. In our room the strange not precise rectangular form resulted in the fact that the bed at its footend leaves 10 cms of space between the bed and the wall, very practical if you want to pass between wall and bed.
Beware also of the fact that behind the hotel are several bars, they use to make loud music until between 2 and 3 in the morning.
Upon our remarks about the noise the staff reported that they were aware of this problem. Nevertheless they rent the rooms to unaware guests!

Other very weak point is tha so called breakfastbuffet. Very poor choice. Included yes, but every other item is on order from a menu.

For a two star hotel maybe acceptable.
For us such a bad experience never again.
