Stayed here for 3 nights in May 2008 for a shopping holiday. The photos previously posted here are quite old because the hotel has been completely refurbished - the rooms still smell of fresh paint. (I will update with pics later). We paid $194 AU per night which is quite high because our stay landed during some trade convention. Either way accomodation in Singapore is very expensive for Asia. For this price I was tossing up between this hotel and Rendezvous and this hotel was much closer to shopping.

Positives
- Very clean newly refurbished rooms and hotel overall. I believe they are doing floor by floor and noticed that the lower floors still had old carpet in the foyers when we looked out of the lift but not sure about the rooms. They had notices that there was refurbishments going on during business hours but we didnt hear anything much. We heard more from the building of the Quincy hotel next door but didnt spend much time in the room to care.
- Location: 5min walk to Orchard Rd/Scotts Rd and Orchard Rd MRT(- Near a large hospital if you need medical attention

Negatives
- Internet access was $SG 2 for 15min, there were 2 computers in the lobby open 24hrs however you couldnt top up until it ran out and there were no warnings so i noticed every single person would get cut halfway through browsing etc and would have to put $2 in just to log out of their email accounts, msn etc.
- Lifts were very slow
- Pool and Jacuzzi showing its age, needs to be refurbed to match hotel
- Bought a small Evian water 400mls from the hotel cafe for $6?!
- The steep incline from Scotts Rd - which we didnt notice until the 3rd day of non-stop shopping and our legs were tired so please take this into consideration if you are less mobile i.e. i think it would be hard for older ppl walking up that hill during the hotter part of the day or if you were carrying young toddlers.

I would stay here if you are on a budget but still want to be walking distance to Orchard Rd. I would definitely pick this over the Elizabeth even though the Elizabeth looks closer.

However if I were to return to Singapore (which I doubt as I found KL had the exact same brands but better exchange rate) I would pay the extra to be located smack on Orchard Rd e.g. The Meritus Mandarin..

We had a very large room, perfect for a family (2 adults and two small children).
The staff provided an extra, single bed for my daughter at no extra charge. The rest of us (3) slept in the King sized bed - plenty of room for two adults and a two year old.
We stayed one night at the hotel.
The room was clean, and reasonably newly refurbished.
Clean bathroom with bath and separate shower.
Very friendly staff.
Nice pool and good fitness centre.
Breakfast buffet not spectacular, go to Orchard road (5 minutes walk) for better food at better prices.
Reasonable rate SGD225 per night, booked hotel through Singapore Airlines stopover programme - I thoroughly recommend this programme. The SIA stopover programme was the only way I could get a hotel at a "reasonable" price.

We stayed 3 days and found the York a great Location, 5 mins walk to Orchard Road, large room and very good, clean, quiet, staff very good, Breakfast good...(eggs not hot sometimes), TV coverage poor. Room not ready when we arrived 6.30p which was not good after a flight from Australia. Would definately stay there again. Maybe they could offer free Broadband in these days which would be a bonus..

Premise: I went to Singapore as part of a study abroad so I did not choose the hotels.

This hotel is in a great location. It is a block from a major shopping road (I'm sorry I forget the name right now but it's big). The hotel itself is very clean, the staff are knowledgeable and very nice, the room is nice, the bathrooms are clean. There is wifi available in the room for an exorbitant amount, but you gotta do whatcha gotta do. The wifi is a good connection with fast access. There is a big pool and jacuzzi. The breakfast wasn't impressive.

All in all I thought this was an excellent choice and if you're looking for a nice hotel in a good area, I recommend the York.

I also went to the Raffles twice. Once to have a Slinger and another for lunch. That hotel is lovely but it's not within walking distance to anything really.

Singapore is really nice. Enjoy!!
