My girlfriend and i ended up staying here by mistake, it was the best mistake we have ever made. The York was a 'gem' right in the heart of the shopping on orchard road (handy for xmas prezzies).
Spacious and very clean, fast enough check-in and the breakfast was plenty and varied to cater for most. We also found the 'infamous' hard beds very comfortable (maybe they have changed them???)
As a stopover hotel we found it perfect for our needs and when we go back to discover singapore a bit more (we only had 36 hours) would certainly stay there again.
If i had any complaint (sorry) but the receptionist could relax a bit more, smile and look as though they enjoy it. After a 13 hour flight it's not much to ask, go on girls you can do it.
Otherwise, a very good place to lie your head for a while!!!!!!!

basic, simple, no frills hotel.
Walking distance to the shopping street, easy access.
I stayed there for about 10 days.
Buffet breakfast is pretty basic.Swimming pool is only available during the day. Receptionist / duty manager is always busy - I called more than 5 times with no pickup.
Other than that, it was a pleasant stay.

My family, (Mum, Dad, 11yo boy and 8yo girl) spent 9 nights at the York, and would certainly stay again. With kids try and get a corner room for extra space.

I was extremely happy with the hotel itself, and staff. Kids loved the pool the most.

Its approximately 7 minute walk to Orchard Road out the front entrance and a couple minute walk to Scotts Rd and the Far East Plaza out the back entrance.

Only downside was the breakfast, while there was a good selection on the buffet table, it was a little bland. If we stay there again I wouldnt get the breakfast.

I went to Singapore on a shopping holiday with a friend for 5 nights. We wanted a clean, well located hotel, and found the best deal for the York Hotel suprisingly through the Qantas Holidays website (we're from Australia).
The rooms were of a good size and the bathroom was clean. Our only complaint of the entire stay were that the beds were a bit hard. The staff were friendly and doormen very helpful.
We had an excellent buffet breakfast everyday (we rang Qantas Holidays direct to add this on for AUD $8 /day each - very good value).
While this hotel isn't among the likes of the Raffles or Hyatt, we throughly enjoyed the 5 nights spent at the York in November 2007.
