FAMILY HOTEL with a difference! Are you searching for a way to get back and forth to Asia with your kids? Look no further. With one, two or three kids we have traveled throughout the US, Europe, the Middle East and now Indonesia, and with fifteen years of family-travel experience I can say that we've never had a hotel as nice as this one for the money. It's actually a very professional business hotel, but they accommodate families with such grace you think that's all they do. You can't go wrong here. The first thing that strikes you is the lovely fragrance flooding the lobby. Everything is pleasant, neat, artistic, very feng shui. The staff are extremely efficient and courteous. Our room was expansive and we had more than enough space for two adults and three growing children ages 13, 9 and 8. Best of all is the buffet dinner! Don't miss it. Usually when you think of buffet you think of leftover food the chef is trying to get rid of. Not so here. This is a place where Singaporeans come to dine, because they know it's great food at a great price. Absolutely delicious. And my wife and I are very picky, mostly vegetarian and macrobiotic eaters, and we are sensitive to things like MSG and preservatives (get reactions, etc.). But I stuffed myself to the gills and felt full of energy that night and the next day. The famous Maxwell Market is great - if you can tolerate high levels of MSG. At the Novotel you won't miss Maxwell; what a selection of foods: sushi (so delicate and flavorful), beef, selections of fish, scallops on the shell, shrimp, soups, cheeses and breads, and desserts galore. All gourmet standard. Everything extremely fresh - it was a work of art. I'm now spoiled and I don't think I can accept anything less anymore. And the cost was about US $25 per adult, very cheap because guests at the hotel get a big discount. Just to give you an idea of my experiences, my two other favorite hotels are the Bristol in Vienna and Annahotel in Munich, both great, but Novotel Clarke Quay rivals and surpasses them in many ways. And did I mention the view? Just check out the gazillion photos on this website.

We arrived early one morning and left early again the next morning after spending 6 weeks in Europe. We stayed in Singapore for 5 nights on the way to Europe at Traders Hotel just off Orchid Road. We arrived at the Novotel around 6am and we were told our room wouldnt be ready for a while but if we wanted to upgrade we could have a room straight away. We decided just to wait as the hotel wasnt cheap to start with. We asked if we could lay by the pool and they said that wouldnt be a problem. They held our luggage and we went and sleept on the pool loungers. My husband checked around 9:30 and they had a room ready. It was a lovely corner room - larger than Traders. The curtains were really good and darkened the room enough for us to have a sleep. The shower was a little odd in that it didnt hang very high - it was around hip height so you had to hold it in your hand the whole time. Hard when you wanted to wash hair as when you hung it on the little hook water would hit the wall and splash out of the bath and on the floor. The area around Clarke Quay was dead during the day but at night it really lit up. We didnt eat at the hotel as it was very pricey. When we checked out they tried to charge mini bar foods but we hadnt had any and house keeping had only come to check the mini bar about 5 hours after we checked in to the room. They got us to sign a form to remove the charges. The lady on reception was nice about it though. Overall it was a nice hotel but lacked a little warmth. Clarke Quay also didnt offer much excitement during the day where as the Traders was a couple minutes walk from Orchid Road.

“Great Location!”

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 6 nights last year, on the 8th floor. The view was fantastic as was the location, but the building itself is showing it's age a little.

We chose Novotel Clarke Quay for it's location, as it's right amongst all the busltling nightlife, only a short walk from the nearest MRT (train) station, and close to Chinatown!

A select few of the staff members were helpful, but I think this place would be best reserved for those who know they're way around Singapore, or who don't require much assistance.

“Stay here for the location”

Novotel Clarke Quay Singapore

You stay here for the convenience and location as the Quay is really the loveliest and most lively place to be in Singapore. It's walking distance to China Town, to several train stations, and the night life around the Quay is wonderful. That was certainly the highlight.

We found the staff fairly neutral and we also had difficulty in checking in. We were informed that we'd been 'upgraded to two single beds' however the looks on our face probably told them that we'd much prefer to be 'downgraded to a queen bed, thank you very much'.

Be careful if you pay in advance. They tried to charge us when we checked out but thankfully we had our receipt on hand from the booking site. Apparently this is a 'common mistake'.

They will allow you to leae your luggage there for a while. We travelled to Borneo from Singapore and left our luggage there for a week without problems.

And also be careful of the taxi's waiting outside the door. They're 'hotel taxis' and will charge you double. It's just as easy to walk to the end of the street and get a standard one.

“Mostly Disappointed”

Novotel Clarke Quay Singapore

I stayed at this hotel for four nights. I was on business and the hotel was a "preferred" hotel by our company, with prearranged rates.

Check in was a problem in that the clerk could not find my reservation. He was unapologetic when I produced the confirmation number and he searched for several more minutes.

The hotel lobby is on the 7th floor, necessitating an elevator change whenever entering or leaving the hotel. I found this quite inconvenient.

The room was small with two twin beds very low to the floor. The bathroom was likewise small. Sufficient for a single person but not luxurious by any means. The room was clean and tidy.

I was on the side of the hotel facing Clarke Quay, with its large number of restaurants and night clubs. I was disturbed one night (Saturday) from 2am to 4am by the noise from the clubs.

The breakfast and internet service were not included in my rate and seemed rather steep ($30S each). The breakfast did provide a good variety and selection.

The location is good for night life, but is not much in the daytime. The MRT system is a short walk from the hotel.

I would only stay there again if I were on business.
