“Just right for a stopover”

Furama RiverFront

4 of 5 stars
Sydney, Australia
Jul 12, 2008

I was perfectly happy with this hotel. My partner and I stayed one night, on a stopover from UK to Australia, and it was just what we needed. Comfortable bed, large, clean, quiet room (although the decor was slightly dated) and clean, spacious bathroom, and very helpful, friendly staff.

We had a great view from our room. As non-smokers, we would have preferred a non-smoking room, but when we arrived were told there would be a wait for one to be ready (it was only 8am so this was not unreasonable). Having been on a long flight and up for almost 24 hours, we took the smoking room as we just wanted a rest. This turned out to be a good call as I believe the non-smoking rooms are in a different part of the hotel and perhaps lack the views. Yes there was a slight smell of stale smoke at first, but this soon vanished into the air conditioning.

The hotel is not centrally located, but the two attractions we were interested in were the Zoo and the Botanic Gardens, and the hotel is actually in a good position for reaching both of these on public transport. Also, as many other reviewers have said, taxis in Singapore are incredibly cheap and so the whole city is very accessible in this way.

We didn't eat at the restaurant in the hotel as some of the other reviews on tripadvisor were not too good, and it seemed expensive.

All in all, we had a good stay at the Furama Riverfront in Singapore and would certainly consider staying at this hotel on a stopover again.

“excellent short stay”

Furama RiverFront

Jul 8, 2008

really enjoyed our stay, the room was lovely and the views of the pool and city were amazing !
the entertainment was interesting and certainly gave us a few smiles, the champagne may have helped this slightly!
the square restaurant has excellent food although some dishes arent for the light hearted!
taxis are so cheap so and everything is really close so this is definately the best way to see this beautiful city.

“Beer appetite champagne budget”

Furama RiverFront

2 of 5 stars
Duncan, OK USA
Jun 30, 2008

I stayed on the executive floor in one of the newly remodeled rooms. The bathroom walls are made of glass. Very exotic on the architect’s computer until you need privacy and have a guest. There is supposed to be a shade for one wall of the bathroom. It was missing in my room. I told the staff about it the first day but it was never installed. There is not a clock in the room. There is no storage, everything is in the open, no wardrobe/closet or drawers to put your clothes in. Like a budget Motel 6 in America except with fine marble and fancy fixtures.

The executive lounge with light dinner and free drinks was a great value. Attentive staff everywhere in the hotel. (except for shade maintenance I guess).

“Excellent Value”

Furama RiverFront

4 of 5 stars
Tasmania
Jun 28, 2008

We stayed at the Furama Riverfront as a stopover in both directions to and from Europe. This is my second stay here, and I find it excellent value. We were lucky enough to have it included (with breakfast) in a flight package deal. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable, with big bathrooms and huge beds. You might want to consider asking for a room in the non-smoking area though, we were in a smokers room on the way over, and found it a little overpowering, so asked for a non-smoking room on our return, and received a lovely colonial style room in the tropical wing. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Room service (which we normally deny ourselves due to costs) was very reasonable, beautifully presented and quite good quality. The staff were lovely, especially the doormen and concierges. The only drawbacks is that it is a bit of a way to get to anywhere the average tourist wants to get to - but the hotel does offer a free shuttle to Orchard road and Chinatown (you need to book when you arrive). The hotel was kind enough to give us a late check out (2 p.m.) on our way back for free, so we left for the airport nice and fresh! I am happy to recommend this hotel as great value.

“Good Value Hotel”

Furama RiverFront

Jun 24, 2008

The hotel is not on any river. With new owners in 2007 the hotel is slowly being upgraded. The hotel is within walking distance of Boat Quay but you do cross a busy road.

My room on the executive level had an all glass walled bathroom and was very modern. However, that also meant little storage space for clothes.

The staff very very courteous and attentive. I arrived with an incorrect reservation and while it took some sorting out the manager at the desk personally escorted me to my room. The doormen were also especilly courteous and helpful.

The food at the restaurants was exellent. The staff in the executive lounge were very attentive and the breakfast and evening food was excellent.

I consider the prices normal for Singapore and anyone who complains about the prices has forgotten that Singapore is a very expensive city to visit.
