“Not recommended”

Gold Coast Hotel

1 of 5 stars
San Francisco, CA
Sep 28, 2008

We stayed at this hotel during a stopover in Hong Kong thinking it would be a nice comfortable place to spend the night. In my opinion, this is definitely not a four star hotel. The rooms were worn and I had to ask for new sheets because there was hair on our "clean" ones. The bed was horrible (the worst part of this hotel) - a very cheap mattress - I could feel all the springs and some felt like they were about to burst out of the mattress at any time. The only thing we really liked about this hotel was the free shuttle into downtown Kowloon. There is a large pool but, as we didn't swim, I can't speak to that. I will say that after our disappointing and uncomfortable stay during our first HK stopover we canceled our stay at the Gold Coast for our second HK stopover and picked a different hotel.

“Nothing much to do”

Gold Coast Hotel

The Gold Coast hotel is defintely not a 5 star hotel and it is quite far from Kowloon and HK island. If you stay in HK and is in need of a short get away, you may consider this hotel. However, for tourists, the beach in HK is not worth a trip there.

The Bad
- The bell boy took a long time to bring the luggage to the room. Had to call the bell boy and describe our luggage before they bring it up.
- The eateries at the hotel are quite expensive. The breakfasts are quite average too.
- The room looks old and there are limited channels available on the TV.
- Nothing much to do at the hotel. Can be quite boring. The 'shopping mall' near the hotel only has a few restaurants, eateries and a supermarket. Nothing much to shop.
- Followed the instructions on the website but had some difficulties finding the bus stop. Remember to cross the road to find the bus-stop. The sign is too small for us to notice it.

The Good:
- The gardens are lovely and well maintained.
- The room is quite spacious.
- The bespectacled driver for the mini-coach was very good. Friendly and helpful. Did not manage to know his name. He is probably the best service staff I met in HK.

“Nice Hotel, if you want to relax”

Gold Coast Hotel

This hotel is a bit out of the way, but perfect for a relaxing break. The bed is great, the rooms very large by HK standards. The Lobby and atrium are beautiful, and the glass elevator is great! The common areas of the hotel were stunning, with beautiful gardens. Unfortunately, the Pool Area was roped off and out of bounds during our entire 2 night stay, because of forecast thunderstorms. Unusual, because in Queensland this practice is not followed, nor at the Hotel we stayed at on Hong Kong Island. Very disappointing, bad form by the hotel I say. Breakfast was great, and plentiful, while the A La Carte restaurant served fantastic food, at reasonable prices. My only criticism of the hotel (apart from closing the pool!) was the Concierge. They were entirely unhelpful, and it seemed like a sport to them, to try and hinder my enjoyment of my stay. I tried to book 1 day ahead for the shuttle, and was told its not possible, but I could awaken at 7am in the morning, and come down to book it with them. So I did this, but it certainly didnt assist in my having a relaxing time at the hotel. I asked the concierge a handful of questions in 2 days, and each time was treated with less than friendly attitudes

“Fabulous! Maybe not 5 star, but excellent 4 star, Great Value.”

Gold Coast Hotel

Jun 18, 2008

We really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were lovely, good facilties, beautiful gardens. Need to heat the pool. It was too cold to use! Our children really enjoyed it. Not much choice of restaurants nearby, but the hotel restaurants is ok. Nice breakfast. Would definitely return.
Reception needs to get it's act toghetr check in took about an hour on both visits here. After a 13 hour flight, 3 children and 2 OAPs in the group, we expected a much swifter check in.

“Great hotel compared to the low price”

Gold Coast Hotel

The overall experience was terrific.
As previously noted, it's not a five star hotel, but rather a four star hotel. If you consider the hotel's standard to the low price for a room, it's absolutely great value. It's perfect for families, because it's a resort with beautiful pools.
The room wasn't anything special. We had a balcony room, but in July it was too hot to use it.
Nearby the hotel you'll find a supermarket and a few restaurants. There is also a MacDonald.
Despite of the location far away from Hong Kong, it's a great place to stay during a vacation in Hong KOng. We had booked the room directly at the hotel, with both breakfast and free shuttlebus included. The shuttlebus was great. It only took about half an hour to get into Hong Kong. It was a great way to see other parts of Hong Kong.
The breakfast buffet was really good! They have a great shuttle-bus system. Just remeber to book it early in the morning, in order to make sure of, you have a seat. The hotel has great discounts during the summer holiday.
