Flight of the Gibbon - It was the highlight of our 2 week trip to Thailand. Excellent Lunch included in the price of 1850 baht (we negotiated through another tour group we went on the day before) - Beautiful rainforest view located in the a lovely village straight out of a movie; Awesome waterfall to hike to; Safe Guides: Always hooked onto a cable line at all times. Prompt pickup at our hotel; about a 50 min scenic drive to the mountains. We had 2 guides (Jaboo & Mr. Bea) who were very safety concious and made it a lot of fun!

Went to the jungles of Chiang Mai to try this activity on the back of a friends recommendation.

After being picked up about 10.30am, we were taken by minibus up to the hills about 2 hours ago. lovely views along the way.

In the afternoon, we divided our time into a mini-trek to an average waterfall in the area, lunch (which was very basic), and then about 2 hours of actual ziplining. In terms of the last of these, staff were extremely friendly, good-natured and safety concious. Not once did I or any of my group feel any risk of injury - everyone is strapped to safety lines by two seperate stages of harness.

The platforms between each line are quite small - so I was very glad that 3 of our potential group of nine didn't show up.. make sure you book for a small a group as possible.

Some of the ziplines are a bit short, but the longer and higher ones are genuinely noteworthy.

If you want to try a different kind of activity in a beautiful setting, this is the one for you.

This is a fantastic adventure activity for EVERYONE!
You are collected from your hotel and driven up into the rainforest to the village of Mae Kompong. Here we were organized into groups and told whether we were trekking up the waterfall, lunching or 'flying' first.

The waterfall trek is a relatively easy climb up steps (with handrail) up the side of a waterfall with stunning views. Lunch is included in a tiny village restaurant (wooden hut!) and we as vegetarians were really well catered for.

As for the best bit - the flying! You are harnessed and helmeted up and driven to the top of the zip line. After a quick but thorough safety briefing you fly, one by one across 2km of metal lines through the tops of the rainforest trees. It is FANTASTIC! I felt incredibly safe at all times and so did my partner who is afraid of heights! You travel through the rainforest on (approx) 18 zip lines and 3 sky bridges and descend by abseil 3 times. The guides are amazing and such great fun.

This is without doubt one of the best things i have ever done - being up in the rainforest is amazing - you really feel close to nature and true thailand. Flight of the Gibbon have been really careful not to damage any trees - none of the wires are actually attached to trees.

Overall a top day and good value for money.

Had a great day in the rainforests. Always felt 100% safe and the instructors were a lot of fun. Lunch wasn't the best of Thai cuisine but you can't go for the food. Very highly recommended and I would definitely go again. I bought the trip through Siam Scene Tour (40 Thapae Road; 053-874331) for 1575 baht (instead of 2200 baht I saw listed elsewhere).
