“Great Stay - Ideal Location”

Shangri-La Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Sunshine Coast

Just came back from a week's stay at Shangri-La. Great location, handy to both the Skytrain & Central Peir. I consider myself to be a discerning traveller & therefore can be very critical of my accomodation. I will definetly stay here again.
The staff are extremely friendly, as are most people in Thailand & always willing to assist.
As Bangkok is such a hectic place I enjoy looking over the Chao Praya - River watching the hive of activity happening there rather than the traffic jams happening elsewhere around the place.

Rooms are well presented & spacious. Fresh platters of fruit daily & complimentary water twice daily.

Breakfast is fantastic with such an array of so much delicious food. A great way to start the day.

The only drawback I can think of is the formality of going to one of their restaurants of a night. If you are a male you have to wear long trousers after 6.30pm.

Nice Pool & Pool Bar was good. Drinks comein plastic tumblers unless you request Glass & could be slightly colder.
Salathip (Their Thai Restaurant is in a lovely setting with staff really welcoming & Thai dancers are a bit of fun) Great wait staff who upsell very well.

Also an ideal location to visit other hotel restaurants in the area such as the Peninsula, Oriental, Millenium Hilton & Le Bua is around the corner. As are local supermarkets & various street vendors, etc.

Overall an enjoyable stay.

“Great hotel- fab service”

Shangri-La Hotel

We stayed at the Shangri la for 3 nights in June. We were in the Shangri La wing and upgraded to a river view room with a balcony.
It was really large- with a great bathroom- also with views of the river.
The bed was really comfy- as was the sofa.
The service everywhere in the hotel was superb. It was our 20th Wedding anniversary and the hotel sent us up fresh fruit and chocolates to help us celebrate. A really nice touch.
The location is great- really close to the sky train- which is fab and cheap, also the water taxis to take you along the river- also really cheap.
You have to go through the Krungthep wing- and exit to get to the skytrain- and this was really luxurious- and made the carpet in our wing look tired and in need of replacing( But that is the only negative- which does seem a bit picky as it is much more expensive to stay in that wing)
The drinks in the pool side bar and in the mini bar are certainly 5 star prices- so if you are happy to pay these then fine- but I though £4.00 for a small bottle of Evian drinking water- a bit excessive- although you do get 2 complimentary bottles everyday.
The breakfast was really good with plenty of choice for every taste and was in a great location overlooking the river. The pool was also really nice and spotlessly clean.
We did not try any other food in the hotel- as we had other things booked- but the menu's looked quite reasonable.
I must also say that the Concierge's at this hotel were the best we have encountered anywhere- nothing was too much trouble and they could answer everything we asked.
All in all a great stay and would recommend to anyone.

spent two nights at hotel at start of our honeymoon , enjoyed the hotel , great food stayed at horizon room one of the best hotels we have stayed in and good value for money.
if you are thinking of going to bangkok our advise would be that 2 or 3 nights is enough before moving onwards but overall a great time and good hotel.

We stayed in the Shangri-la at the beginning of our honeymoon. It was a beautiful hotel. Excellent location for the sky train and boat trips. The breakfasts were great although expensive if not included in your package. Would definately stay here again.

“A Shangtastic Time!”

Shangri-La Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Manila, Philippines

My mom and I took a deluxe room with twin beds at the Shang last May and we had a grand time. We asked for a room with the Chao Praya River View and they gave us one, no questions asked. Upon check in, they gave us a voucher for complimentary drinks and another for a complimentary dinner at Next2.

Service was excellent especially in the restaurants (Next2 and Angelini, especially). The service is not personal as in The Oriental (which we visited and just over one lunch were instantly floored by how home-y and personal their service is) but the Shang is a large chain hotel so you can't really expect them to remember your name after you walk through the door. They were polite, well-mannered and able to call cabs for us right away.

Three minor problems:

1. Lots of flies hovering around the buffet.
2. A huge rip in of the bathrobes.
3. One of the household staff was a bit grumpy when we asked him to come back for the turn down bed service. We were dressing up when he knocked so we politely asked him to come back in five minutes and he kind of grumbled and made a face! We left the room, wondering if he was really going to come back to turn down the beds. When we got back to the hotel later that day, we found that he did. heehee!

no complaints really. we had a grand time!
