My Husband and went Cave Tubing with Vitalino Reyes and his team on November 6, 2008. We were in Belize for the day stopping there as a part of a 7 day cruise on Carnival. It was the best thing we did on the entire cruise and we have Vitalino and his team to thank for it. They were AWESOME and I would receommend that anyone who is visiting Belize especially for the first time get in touch with Vitalino. Beginning with the efficiency of making reservations with Judy. She gave us every detail we needed to know to successfully get off of the cruise and find Vitalino. The trip from the Port to the Cave site was so enjoyable. Vitalino knows EVERYTHING about this area and has a great sense of humor. We were able to go right through the Belize City just as all of the children were walking to school and everyone was out and about. Vitalino explained the culture and answered all of my questions as we were going through. It was an hours trip by car but it went by so quickly with the sites that we were able to see along the way. As were were approaching the area where the caves were we passed Vitalino home. I thought that was so cool that he grew up and lives right there. We even stopped off and a little grocery store that belongs to one of his family members. That was really neat as well. Once we got to the Cave site, we got changed and started the hike. During the hike up to where we would begin tubing, we saw all sorts of plant like and vegetation. We were able to eat several different plants and were told about all of it. We saw bats and termites nests, etc. Once we got to the area where we were to get into the tubes, we gave the items that we did not want getting wet to Jr. (Vitalino's son) he put those in a dry bag so that they would not get wet. I had to put my camera in there. I recommed bringing some sort of camera that can get wet because it would have been cool to take more photos from the water. Luckily there was another lady with us that had one and emailed photos that she took from the water. Vitalino and his team were so thorough and patient. There was only 6 in our group. We had one guide to every two people which made it so peronalized and a wonderful experience. All of the other caving tubing tours around us have MANY more people to each guide and were hurding the tours through like cattle. Our guides would just politely let them past us showing us other details as they rushed along. We felt so special and blessed to have chosen Vitalino and his group. He has smaller groups very knowlegable team members and knows so much about the culture, the wildlife and plantlife. After we got back to the base camp we changed into dry clothes and Vitalino had Jungle Juice (rum punch) ready for us. It was so good and hit the spot after the tour. Just another added touch that makes his tour so unique and authentic. On the way back to Belize City we stopped by Amigos and had lunch. Vitalino knows all the folks there and we had a great lunch of stewed chicken and beans and rice. I also bought some earring made of coconut outside of the restaurant with a little lady that was selling things. Going on a tour with this group was a great experience. I felt very safe and like I got my money's worth. I heard that the other tours costs double what Vitalino charges and got a much less enjoyable experience. I highly recommend that if you are going to go on any type of tour near Belize City that you check with Vitalino. He does more that just Cave Tubing tours. If you have any questions about my experience cave tubing with Vitalino in Belize, please feel free to email me at bsrang@yahoo.com. I will try and figure out how to post photos soon.
