“Very comfortable hotel”

Renaissance Mayflower Hotel

Aug 20, 2008

We had a good experience at the Mayflower. The stay was with 2 adults and our 13 year old son. The beds were very comfortable even though they were only doubles-the room was plenty big enough to accommodate queens. The location was great. Right next to a Metro Station. We didn't miss not having a pool although if we were staying longer that might have been nice to have for my son. Our room was really large and nicely decorated but only had one comfortable chair and a desk chair. More of a sitting area would have been nice, there was definately room for it. There was a coffee pot that made coffee by the cup. We had to call for more coffee since the maid did not replace what we used. There was a stocked minifridge. An empty minifridge would have been better for us but I guess that's just a personal preference. The bathroom was very nice and we felt quite pampered staying there. There were some other families staying there but it mainly seemed like a lot of convention goers. The lobby is hugh and beautiful but nowhere to sit and relax. Only a bench or in the bar (which seemed to be packed). Our main complaint was that we had to pay extra for internet service. I know that is common for higher priced hotels but it just doesn't make since to me when most hotels that we stay in have it for free. Overall this is a very nice hotel. We felt quite pampered and comfortable. I would be happy to stay again if we got a good rate.

“Great historic hotel!”

We had a lovely room for a great rate! Cabs were easy to get and it was a short ride to anywhere we wanted to go. I really liked the 'gentlemans club' style bar adjacent to the lobby although it was a bit pricey.

“overzealous cleaning staff”

Renaissance Mayflower Hotel

This hotel is in a terrific location, it is elegantly adorned, and the rooms are decently sized and comfortable. Sounds great, except we had a problem with the cleaning staff. Here's how it went:

My family members were staying in the room right next door. In the morning, I left the door closed, but not all the way so anyone from next door could come in. The "do not disturb" sign was on the door. At 6:30am, the maid knocked to tell me the door was open. I told her that was fine and to leave it. At 7:15, a male staff member knocked, said "your door is open," then closed it.

Fine. But it didn't stop there. With the "DND" sign on the door, the maid came back at 9am, unlocked and opened the door to clean. Again, I kindly asked her to please leave us alone.

We had arranged for a late check out, but that didn't stop staff members from knocking on the door every 15 minutes from 12:00 to 2pm, from the cleaning staff, to some repair man, to someone else. As we vacated the room at 2, a group of four staff members asked us what room we were in and if we were checking out.

The whole experience was totally ridiculous and unacceptable, and would make me say one should find a luxury hotel where staff are professional and courteous. When I called down to the front desk to request that the cleaning staff no longer knock on our door, I didn't receive any apology or really much of any response at all.

Skip. Skip. Skip.

“Marriott at an inflated price”

Renaissance Mayflower Hotel

First- it is in a great location on CT ave!

For my stay in July, I knew i would be arriving very late and called the hotel to ensure late arrival as my itinerary didn't show the guarantee. The gentlemen was very courteous and ensured I had a room. I arrive at midnight and check in went well. He remarked ' you called us". It yielded me an average room on the 10th floor. It was the top floor and I expected something great. It was a basic marriott, but a bit dated. Not just historic. Room service at that hour was available for a very average $20 burger. ( I have had outstanding $20 burgers at that hour)

I did accidently spill a few crumbs on the carpet between the bed and the desk. Those few crumbs (dime size) were there until I checked out two days later.

The bathroom/bed seemed clean enough. The shower head wasn't tall enough. At 6'1" I haven't had that problem in a while.

Bell service/bag check was very responsive.

Overall, it just seemed very expensive for a very average room. Most Renaissance's are better. They clearly categorized brands by price.

“FABULOUS!!!”

Renaissance Mayflower Hotel

I stayed at the Mayflower for a week and enjoyed every minute. The rooms are beautiful, the service is impeccable and the food is wonderful. I was not bothered by noise though the hotel was totally booked. The location is near the Metro subway, Dupont Circle, the Convention Center, the White House and not too far from Georgetown. Each night they put a different treat on the pillow. That is a very nice touch. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying there again.
