The Good: The hotel has a nice white exterior and the property was an old residence converted into a hotel. The chef in the restaurant is very good; and I highly recommend the fish in a bag, or the grilled fish. The location is very close to town, and very near the Darwin Center. The Bad: You are charged for... more

We stayed at the Hotel Silberstein for 4 nights in May 2008. Service was very professional and very friendly. Room Blue Footed [-] (next to the pool downstairs) was clean and had comfortable beds. Nice inner courtyard and perfect shadow place with plants for the "outside" (covered) restaurant. For us not liking aircon the breakfast room was a little too... more

Hotel that serves very well as a base for trips from Puerto Ayora. Location is on the outskirts of the town, so less noisy and festive than the typical south American youth hostel. Also more expensive. Rooms are clean and air-conditioned, there is a royal breakfast buffet in the morning and two decent scuba dive clubs are close (one across... more

We are a family of four (parents and an 18 and 22 y.o. son and daughter) and stayed at the Silberstein Hotel on a four night package vacation to the Galapagos in June, 2007, arranged through Inti Travel, Banff. Everything turned out better than expected. The hotel is clean and cute. We were met at the airport by a guide... more

Spent 2 nights, room 1 (on 2nd floor). Room overlooked pool, was large and clean, except shower was dated and had some mildew. No problems w/ bugs. Staff was friendly and helpful. It is not a luxurious place, but was comparable to other moderate tropical/beach hotels I have stayed in. more

My husband and I were put in a room the size of a postage stamp next to a road with traffic noise. There was no hot water for the first 24 hours, with no assistance from the front desk. (They kept on insisting the problem was fixed.) The maid service was awful. When we arrived the floor was filthy and... more

Overseas Adventure Travel booked us in here after our final itinerary showed we were to stay at the Royal Palm. There was mold in the bathroom. One morning during breakfast we had bugs crawling on the table. The food we received during the first night was cold and very unappetizing. I spilled a little coffee on the floor in our... more

Couldn't help to add my comments after seeing previous one on this hotel. I admit, it's not the classiest place on the planet, and staff may not have been trained in a Swiss Hotelier School, but for Galapagos standards, I find it entirely reasonable. Air conditioning (e.g. the quiet kind, not the window installed kind), ceiling fans, quiet inner courtyard... more

Likes: Beautiful flowering vines and trees. Dislikes: * Not being able to flush toilet tissue. Environmental reasons would be understandable if there was an cceptable sanitary alternative beyond the open basket next to the toilet. This should be disclosed on the website. * Room smelled of sewerage -- overloaded septic system? * Indifferent owners and staff. NOT welcoming. It's obvious... more

Management response from
Piedra, owner

Puerto Ayora is a small town in development on an island in the middle of the pacific ocean belonging to a developing country. The staff is being continously trained with the aim to get high international standards. Hygiene is a very important issue, especially at a remote place like the Galapagos where special care has to be taken. We take...
