i stayed here last year (july 07) with a friend for a night and it was a really nice clean hotel. its old school but thats the charm of the place in my opinion. check the lifts out:) the breakfast was really good loads of things to choose from. centrally located. we walked from the train station which is about... more

I switched to this hotel when the Metropole ran out of room on my 4th night in Alexandria. Compared to the Metropole this hotel is a bit more polished - nice beds, contemporary bedding, double glazed modern windows, nice new bathroom, table and chairs near window, etc. It was expensive enough that I had to give up my window view,... more

Wonderful location.. was very glad that our first choice El Samalek was full - way too far out of town, overly smart & uninviting place (dinner jackets required etc). At Cecil, recommend upper floor , sea view room NB we had booked sea view room via their website for our 3 night stay but were initially shown a very small... more

Existing in the past (Agatha Christie, Winston Churchill et al stayed here). Nothing bad to report but nothing to get excited about apart from a lift which said 'Do not use in case of Fire or Earthquake' . Room suite was very big but noisy. Amenties and breakfast OK. Roof terrace lacked any class. Would try somewhere else next time... more

Terrible: very poor service, antiquated rooms (windows that do not open, broken furniture, old beds, etc.), dated bathrooms. The breakfast buffet was adequate (with horrendous service) but the Chinese restaurant on the roof is a joke. I went to the "health club" on the top floor for my daily fitness routine and could not believe what I saw: a few... more

First visit to Alex for work. Really liked the antique style elevator - very quaint and definitely a nice feature to retain to add character to the building. Rooms are generously sized and understandbly not overy modernised. Think mine was named after Muhammed Ali. I saw one of the neighbouring rooms was Omar Sharif! Breakfast buffet offered a good range... more

An atmospheric hotel with literary associations. It figures in Lawrence Durrell's Alexandria Quartet, and Somerset Maugham used to stay here. The view over the Eastern Harbour and along the Corniche is marvellous, whether from your room (best to get one on the corner so that it overlooks both the harbour and the square) or from the rooftop where you can... more

This hotel is located within walking distance of the Library and the city centre. It has stunning views of the bay. The only thing that let this hotel down was the beds. I have a bad back which was aggrevated by the very hard beds so I did not sleep very well. So was glad we were only there for... more

We visited this hotel for lunch on a day trip to Alexandria from Cairo, having read that it was highly recommended. Unfortunately the service was ridiculously slow even though they weren't at all busy and although there were four of us eating, two of our meals turned up at least five minutes after the first two. The food was pretty... more

Best of a noisy bunch. Located on the very noisy corniche we switched to this hotel because we were unable to sleep because of the noise in the other hotel. The windows and doors are properly sealed which helps but it is always going to be noisy in Alexandria because of the traffic. The food at the 24 hour cafe... more
