Mercure Romance is close to Daniel Bridge, about 10 minutes by car from the city center and the Corniche. It was the only hotel available when I decided to go for a 3-day-trip from Sharm el-Sheikh. Difficult to say which comes first, a reduction in a hotels customers or deterioration in service and standard i.e. is one the response to another. Whichever the case the Mercure Alexandria seems to have experienced this phenomena, few customers and poor standard. In fairness the high season was over during my painful experience. A four star hotel - We stayed in a winter month when the wind was really strong and howled through the windows - however watching the sea in the gale force winds more than made up for this! Fantastic! The rooms looked brand new. We stayed in a suite, which had a lovely little sitting room attached in another room.... more
